historical fact or fiction? i love when you do these period pieces.

this one reminds me of a book i am reading, IRONWEED.
"'No,' said Francis. 'Nobody's a bum all their life. She hada been somethin' once.'"
...
"I won't hit ya, babe. I love ya some. Are ya awful cold?"
...
"Tidy bum. Sensitive, tidy bum on my wagon."

there's always something that haunts and drives us, huh?

It's fiction. For a really long time I've wanted to do a story that takes place in a generic 1930s setting and is basically about a group of people in a tenement house. Really typical boring stuff with a weird, sad undercurrent. But I think I finally figured out how to talk about things without showing them, which is the way this sort of thing should be done. It's going to be sloppy and fast and dumb and hopefully I can get out of the way and forget about it forever.

That dialogue you posted is amazing; it's exactly what I want to do. Men abusing women, women abusing men, men abusing men. In the thirties.

This was fantastic. I remember talking about this idea with you. Nice to see some fruit. I can almost see it as 3-4 panel strips. that last section is filled with so much nostalgia and palpable pain. thank you for drawing.

Thanks, Chuck. Yeah, it was always a great idea to joke about, men sitting in chairs and talking to their wives and going out in the alleys and pitching pennies while the wives sleep. It's still a joke. The first page originally said "By Seth" which, at the time, I thought made it make more sense.
